Art is a required class, typically meeting once per week, for Kindergarten through 8th grade.  The classes are taught by licensed teachers.  There are also after school opportunities such as Art Club for 6th-8th grade students.

Elementary students learn about art history, the elements and principles of art and work with different media.  This is learned through art magazines, online sources, classroom textbooks, and power point presentations.  A variety of mediums are used such as drawing, painting, clay modeling, and three-dimension tools.  All resources are used to cover the Indiana State Standards, help students explore their gifts and talents, and provide a well-rounded education.

In 6th-8th grade, students continue their art education building on the previous years.  They are challenged intellectually and artistically.  Specific cultures are studied aligned with State Standards.  Media and projects are covered in more depth.  Students become familiar with art careers and the knowledge of building a portfolio.  Middle school students also help with Fine Arts Night and create props for the school’s music and drama departments.

See the High School page for information on courses and opportunities for high school students.
