The ECS Media Center is committed to supporting our teachers and students in moving forward in all areas of literacy and learning, while recognizing how the skills of reading, writing, and research help us to experience God’s truth.  Our goal is to equip students to be rich in information literacy, which leads students to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to find, validate, and use effectively the needed information.  Our Collaborative Learning and Community Outreach (CLCO) Coordinator and Media Center staff partner with grade level teams to facilitate research, reading, and writing instruction that enhances and supports all ECS curriculum.

The Media Center includes a wide range of technology support for student use (ebooks, netbooks, Internet access, etc.).  K-3rd grade students attend classes every week.  4th-5th grade students visit the Media Center weekly for research, AR testing, and book checkout within their Literature class time.  6th-8th grade students have daily access to research and book checkout at our Cullen Campus Collaboratory. Throughout the year, we also enjoy offering fun and engaging literacy-based opportunities for our students and families through special events such as Scholastic Book Fairs, Living Wax Museum (character talking book reports), and Literacy Night.

The Media Center features a web-based library management system, Follett’s Destiny, which allows parents and students to search our catalog and read book reviews from anywhere with an internet connection.  Click here to access our Follett’s Destiny catalog of all ECS resources available for checkout.

Another strong literacy support is our Accelerated Reading (AR) program.  AR is an innovative, computerized learning information system that provides teachers with a creative way to motivate students and develop a lifelong love of reading.  In partnership with teachers, our students participate in creating quarterly fiction and nonfiction reading goals that challenge them and hold them accountable to growing as readers. AR is a tool that builds valuable critical-thinking and real-world problem solving skills that will help our students throughout their lives.  Click here to access our AR Home Connect System and here to access AR Book Finder.
